Andretti Racing is a video game developed by American studios High Score Productions and Stormfront Studios and published by Electronic Arts for PC in 1997. Interestingly this game was originally developed for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1996 and ported to windows a year later. The game was fairly realistic for the time with the controls being somewhat simplistic but with a high level of realism such steering and the need for learning how and when to properly brake. The developers did make their best attempts at a real racing sim, even consulting with Andretti himself through most of the design process.
Graphics were good but they had their flaws with reviews being rather lukewarm. Visuals were ok with details lacking for the cars and the developers often employing some visual tricks to maintain the realism while racing. There was a stable of cars that players could pick from, Stock Car and Formula One which means that fans from both sides of the isle can be satisfied. Players are not able to customize their cars or upgrade them with new parts, which limits the replay value of the game. There was, however, In addition to the single-player mode, a multiplayer mode, which allows players to race against each other over a LAN or the Internet with up to four players at a time and a split screen mode for two or more players.
Overall, Andretti Racing was a solid middle-of-the-pack racing game. While the lack of customization options is a drawback, it’s a classic racing game that is still enjoyable to play today.
